Accurate dew point measurement at high humidity levels, where process temperatures approach or exceed ambient conditions, requires a fully heated sample path to prevent condensation before measurement. The SIM-12H heated chilled mirror sensor and HSS-12 sampling system from Panametrics are designed specifically for these demanding applications.
The SIM-12H is a two-stage thermoelectric chilled mirror sensor with selectable heated setpoints up to 100 °C, enabling reliable dew point measurement from −10 °C to +75 °C dew point with accuracy to ±0.2 °C (±0.15°C optional).
The HSS-12 extends this capability by integrating a complete heated sampling system. It brings together the SIM-HFT heated filter module, SIM-HFM heated flow meter and metering valve, and the SIM-HSL self-regulating heated sample line, all assembled on a single mounting plate. This ensures consistent temperature control throughout the sample path and prevents condensation from the process tap to the sensor.
Designed for use with Optica and OptiSonde analysers, the SIM-12H can be deployed as a standalone sensor where sampling is already in place, while the HSS-12 provides a fully integrated solution for reliable, high-accuracy measurement in challenging environments.
Both products are designed for dew point measurement in process gas applications where the gas dew point equals or exceeds ambient temperature. Without heated instrumentation, condensation forms before the gas reaches the chilled mirror, causing inaccurate readings. The SIM-12H is the heated sensor; the HSS-12 is a complete turnkey system built around it.
The SIM-12H is the heated chilled mirror sensor only. The HSS-12 is a complete, factory pre-wired sampling system that includes the SIM-12H sensor plus a heated filter module (SIM-HFT), heated flow meter and metering valve (SIM-HFM), heated sample line (SIM-HSL), and mounting plate (SIM-MPL). Choose the SIM-12H where sample conditioning is already provided; choose the HSS-12 for a complete, minimal-installation solution.
The SIM-12H sensor heater is selectable at 25, 40, 55, 70, 85, or 100°C. In the HSS-12, the SIM-HFT heated filter and SIM-HFM flow meter are fixed at 105°C, and the SIM-HSL heated sample line self-regulates at 125°C.
The SIM-12H and HSS-12 measure from −10 °C to +75 °C using the SIM-12H sensor. To ensure stable and accurate measurement, the sensor is maintained at an elevated temperature, typically around 20 °C above the dew point, which helps prevent condensation under typical ambient conditions of about 25 °C.
