It uses the gas dilution principle. A dry gas supply is split into two streams: one is saturated with water vapour at a known temperature, the other stays dry. The streams are recombined, diluting the saturated stream with a controlled amount of dry gas to set the desired water vapour level. Single or two stage dilution covers the full range.

The MG101 generates frost/dew points from −75°C up to +10°C below ambient temperature, equivalent to about 1.2 ppmv to 12,120 ppmv at one atmosphere and 20°C ambient. Accuracy is ±1°C dew/frost point.

Dry nitrogen is preferred, supplied at 4 bar to 5 bar (55 psig to 60 psig). The supply gas must be at least 25°C drier than the driest dew/frost point to be generated. Maximum flow rate is 9.2 litres per minute and outlet pressure is adjustable from ambient to 1 bar.
